ADULT EDUCATION

Congregation Emanu-El plans innovative programming to enrich and inspire Emanu-El membership and community. We welcome everyone who wants to explore Judaism and learn more about Jewish faith, traditions, customs and culture. September through May we offer Torah study, guest lectures, film screenings, and other learning opportunities. As part of our religious school, we also offer special classes for parents along with their children.

We invite you to explore these opportunities. Check out our monthly newsletter and calendar for current events, dates, and times. All Adult Education programs are open, free or for a nominal charge, to the general community, both Jewish and non-Jewish, as well as to our membership.

Congregation Emanu-El offers religious school for children in preschool through B’nai Mitzvah. Classes teach students the basic beliefs, skills, and history of Judaism so that they can participate comfortably and actively in all areas of Jewish life. The program includes positive experiences that enhance religious and prayer book studies and help our students adopt Jewish education as a lifelong pursuit.

The program also includes monthly classes for family, with parents studying alongside their children. We encourage you to explore these class offerings, and family activities and take part in teaching your child and your family the Jewish values and traditions we strive to live by.

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION

At Emanu-El we believe in fostering a positive and rich Jewish identity for the children of our congregation. This includes providing access to religious and Hebrew language education for our children and teens as part of our larger Spokane Jewish community.

Religious School: Children of Congregation Emanu-El members are welcome and encouraged to enroll their children in religious school (Kindergarten – 7th Grade) and Hebrew Language Education (3rd Grade and up) through the Temple Beth Shalom Midrasha.  Hebrew language study can also be done through our private tutoring program.  Teens (8th-12th Grade) are also welcome to participate in Temple Beth Shalom’s Midrasha High which provides continuing education beyond Bar/Bat Mitvah.

See: https://spokanetbs.org/node/221 for more information. In addition, during monthly Saturday Shabbat services, children have the opportunity to participate in fun group activities.

B’nai Mitzvah:Bar or Bat Mitzvah is a wonderful occasion to celebrate with our Congregation Emanu-El community.  Since this occasion marks a milestone in Jewish literacy, the preparation is a significant commitment for both students and their families, and involves private tutoring in Hebrew language, prayers, Torah trope, a social action project, and preparing a D’var Torah with Rabbi Malino.  We welcome all children to participate, and if necessary can tailor the program to an individual child’s needs.  For more information, please contact Rabbi Tamar.
