RELIGIOUS EDUCATION

At Emanu-El we believe in fostering a positive and rich Jewish identity for the children of our congregation. This includes providing access to religious and Hebrew language education for our children and teens as part of our larger Spokane Jewish community.

Religious School: Children of Congregation Emanu-El members are welcome and encouraged to enroll their children in religious school (Kindergarten – 7th Grade) and Hebrew Language Education (3rd Grade and up) through the Temple Beth Shalom Midrasha.  Hebrew language study can also be done through our private tutoring program.  Teens (8th-12th Grade) are also welcome to participate in Temple Beth Shalom’s Midrasha High which provides continuing education beyond Bar/Bat Mitvah.

See: https://spokanetbs.org/node/221 for more information. In addition, during monthly Saturday Shabbat services, children have the opportunity to participate in fun group activities.

B’nai Mitzvah:Bar or Bat Mitzvah is a wonderful occasion to celebrate with our Congregation Emanu-El community.  Since this occasion marks a milestone in Jewish literacy, the preparation is a significant commitment for both students and their families, and involves private tutoring in Hebrew language, prayers, Torah trope, a social action project, and preparing a D’var Torah with Rabbi Malino.  We welcome all children to participate, and if necessary can tailor the program to an individual child’s needs.  For more information, please contact Rabbi Tamar.
